Artist Statement

I love movement, layers and lines. My process embraces the development of these elements as they relate to each other in an abstracted context. My work is much more about the process and experience than the final product. A feeling, an image, a sound may invoke a color thought or combination and the piece usually starts from there. Then comes the texture, the lines, the scribbles, the layers, and so on. I invite the audience through the various directional lines, movement of bright and matted colors and layers of mixed media materials in the hopes that each person will have their own personal physical and emotional artistic process as they view the painting.

I enjoy working with mixed media materials, acrylic paints and mediums, graphite pencils, stencils, ink, and collage. My recent inspiration comes from the world of street art and the slew of ordinary images that I see every day, such as old buildings and chipped paint, sunsets while commuting, a combination of colors in nature under different lights. I like to view my canvases as segments of walls in the urban environment each with years of stories to tell.
